Tips for Motorcyclists
|
|
Before an Incident
Corporate types might call this "being pro-active". We
like to think of it as covering your ass. This stuff may
seem kind of boring, but trust us, it is important if you
are going to protect your rights, your health, and your most
valued asset - your bike!
1)
Insurance - maximum protection is critical!
Although insurance issues vary from state to state the one
constant for ALL motorcyclists is to make certain you have the
most protection possible. If you don't it is very possible
that you might "win" a case but not get anything close to the
value of your total losses, including pain and suffering.
CycleAttorneyNetwork understands that effective legal advocacy
begins BEFORE you ever have an incident. For details on
Insurance issues in your state please feel free to
contact us.
2)
ID & Other Important Documents - you would be
surprised how many cyclists are involved in accidents and don't
have critical documents on their person. If your wallet
and other papers are back at the base camp, or home in your desk
they will not be of any use if you have an incident. Even
worse than that, if you are injured and unable to respond
immediately following an accident you are going to have to rely
on others to locate those documents for you. While
CycleAttorneyNetwork can't be your "wing man" while you are out
there on the road (all that sounds like fun!) our Member Card
can go with you wherever you go and help provide the critical
details needed if you have an incident.

program.
3)
What about your bike? If you have an incident
that results in your having to leave your bike at the scene are
you sure that it will be properly cared for in your absence?
The CycleAttorneyNetwork offers FREE TOWING to motorcylists that
have been involved in an a multi-vehicle accident and in other
types of incidents. Learn More

After an Incident
1)
Remain Calm & Take Inventory - Don't lose your cool.
Even if you just totaled a brand spanking new ride you need your wits
about you in this moment. First check the physical well being of
yourself, and your riding buddies if you have any, and the health of
any other's involved in the incident. Remember that this isn't
the time to be too proud to admit if you are genuinely hurting.
After checking every one for personal injuries check out your ride.
Make a note of any details, including road and weather conditions, and
of course the contact info, insurance, tags, etc. of any other
vehicles involved in the incident.
2) Contact
your Attorney - Do NOT be lulled into being complacent if the
other vehicle's driver is clearly at fault or even ADMITS FAULT.
Many times in an accident a driver will take responsibility at the
scene but deny it later and GET AWAY WITH IT. You need a
professional legal advocate in these kinds of situations, and the
sooner you make that call the better your chances of having your legal
rights properly protected. That is why we recommend you consider
our Member Card so that you will have
your attorney's information with you in the unfortunate event of an
incident.
3) Contact Us Now - If you are
reading this because you have recently been involved in an incident
and are not currently represented by an attorney please don't delay.
